A well groomed cat is bound to look pretty!

If you have a cat, then you are probably aware of all its shenanigans. Cats can be very curious, wanting to squeeze into those tight little spaces for some odd reason. They can appear to have an indifferent demeanor towards you or everything in general, but one thing we can all agree on is how enchantingly adorable they are! Did you know that ancient Egyptians used to worship cats?

Grooming is an important part of caring for your feline friend because not only does it keep your cat looking nice and pretty but it also helps you keep an eye on its overall health. Your feline friends tend to be very picky about things. If they don’t like something, they don’t like it and there’s not much you can do about it.  This is why it’s important to start grooming practices when they’re kittens, to help them grow accustomed to it so that they don’t freak out seeing you apply an odd looking brush over their fur for the first time in years! That won’t turn out well. So, it’s always recommended to start early.

Let’s get on with some handy cat and kittens grooming supply tips!

In case you do start grooming late, here are a few things you can do with brushing:

  • A useful trick is to have brushes and combs lying around areas of your house where the cat usually naps. So that when it does, you can easily get a hold of the comb before your cat gets too curious.
  • Have a family member stroke her the way it likes and calm her down while you’re brushing her. You have better chances of your cat complying if it feels more relaxed.
  • If the cat refuses the brush altogether, use an over glove to pet and stroke it in order to get it used to a foreign object touching it. Slowly progress to the comb and then the brush.
  • When cleaning the cat’s face, use a tooth brush with soft bristles. It will get the job done without freaking out your cat.

The shear idea of giving your cat a bath can be horrifying because we all know cats and kittens hate water. Sometimes, their coat might get tangled and dirt ridden to an extent that requires you to intervene.

Here are few tips to mellow out the process:

  • To minimize the chances of your cat jumping at first contact, make sure the water is warm, not hot or cold.
  • Use shampoos made for cats  only to avoid epidermal irritation.
  • You can use a sink with a rubber mat placed inside and fill it with water to about 4 inches. Use a spray hose to gently work the shampoo into the fur. Do not spray water inside the ears, nose and eyes. Nor should you directly pour water atop its head.
  • Move your way from the neck to tail. Massage your cat in a way it tends to like to keep it comfortable. Then finally, pat it dry with a towel.
